"Girls getting to know their true value and purpose”
At St Columba’s
Catholic School, we believe that all young women should know how much they are
infinite value and potential, and the inner and outer beauty they possess. We see this as critical in approaching teenage years to combat peer and social pressures and promote positive decision making. With this in mind, we began a GHD program for all of our year 8 girls. The program involves one-hour sessions for 11 weeks during school hours.
The purpose of the program is:
- To explore topics that pertain
to girls of this age within a fun and supportive environment.
- The topics include attitude, body image, self-respect, and relationships.
- To positively encourage girls
to perceive themselves as a beautiful creation in the image of God.
- To provide tools and knowledge
that promotes positive self-esteem.
- To foster connections for High School before Year 9
The 11 week program finishes with a group ‘Girls’ Day Out’ for our girls and their mothers or a special lady in their life. The 2017 GDO will be held on Saturday 4th November. The day will involve workshops focusing on some of the above topics, letter writing between mothers and daughters, guest speakers, and ways in which the girls can express their individual style, confidence and beauty.
GDO has been very successful in past years, with girls and their mothers giving very positive feedback. Girls said it allowed them to spend special time with their mother, and mothers enjoyed the opportunity to talk over topics they wouldn’t usually discuss, particularly through exchanging letters.
We are inviting any Year 8 girl from within our diocese to be part of the day. We endeavor keeping costs to a bare minimum so that financial pressures do not impact upon girls attending this special day. Any help that you may be able to give, whether it is with product, time or money, is so appreciated.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at school for further information about the day.
