Saints United 2021 Cricket Trials

Northern Districts Cricket Association changed our Waikato Year 7 & 8 Cricket competition this term to the following:
Saturday Morning Intermediate (Year 7 & 8) Changes;
We are changing the structures of intermediate (Year 7&8) cricket to align with Sport NZ ‘Balance is Better’ Philosophy. NZ Cricket have also committed to the ‘Balance is Better’ philosophy along with 4 other National Sporting Organisations. Stuff Article
In response to Sport NZ and NZ Cricket, Northern Districts are aligning its philosophy of operating competitions to “Balance is Better”. These changes include:
o District Representative tournaments (Waikato Valley & Hamilton at Year 7&8) have been replaced by skill development programs and opportunities for participants.
o Removing the current Division 1,2&3 structure in Year 7&8 to a more inclusive Year 7&8 competition.
Removes the need for schools/clubs to hold trials and have selectable teams for Division 1.
Allows clubs and schools to create teams of even and mixed abilities.
It was decided at our Saints United Committee Meeting that we will continue to hold trials to select our teams for 2021. We feel this is the only fair way to ensure an even playing field because we have 5 schools joining together to play as one club. We want all our students to have the opportunity to play cricket if they want too and the teams to be selected as fairly as possible by independent selectors.
Mr Stuart McIntyre will run the trials. He has coached Saints United for many years and has no children playing for Saints United in 2021. He will be assisted by TBC.
Cricket in Year 7&8 is played in a 9 aside format on a Saturday morning starting at 10am in the Waikato Area. Season dates are still TBC. Fee this year was $45 per term.
Coaches and Managers will be needed once teams have been selected.
Please consider if you would be happy to coach, manage, umpire or do the scoring. Based on numbers from this year we are looking to have three teams in 2021. Numbers will dictate what teams we have in the end though.
