Principal's Message
Dear St Columba's School Community,
As we began the week, our community came together to mourn the passing of two significant leaders in our Māori and Catholic communities. We farewell our Māori King, Kiingi Tuheitia, and our beloved Bishop Emeritus (known to most of us as Bishop Dennis) of the Hamilton Diocese,(1994-2014). May they both rest in peace.
Bishop Dennis Browne dedicated his life to serving our Catholic community, first as a priest, then as Bishop of Rarotonga (1977-1983), Bishop of Auckland (1983-1994), and finally as Bishop of Hamilton (1995-2014). We honour his legacy and commitment to our community.
This week, we also farewell our AIMS athletes competing in Tauranga next week. We wish our Basketball team, Rockclimber Max M, Surfer Noah C, Gymnast Landyn M, Swimmer Kate C and Cross Country athletes Isla W and Addi R all the best in their respective events.
Last week, our Pasifika and Kapa Haka groups shone at Te Hui Ahurea, proudly representing our school with passion and dedication. Thank you to everyone involved in making this experience possible for our 103 participating students. We also celebrated our school Cross Country/ Colour Run, and the excitement that came with it, despite the wet weather.
Last week, around 50 of our cross country athletes competed at the Catholic Cross Country events in Te Awamutu (Years 7-8) and Bremworth Park (Years 5-6).
I extend my gratitude to all parents and caregivers for your unwavering support of your children and the various activities offered this term.
May God bless and comfort us during this time of mourning, and may Kiingi Tuheitia and Bishop Dennis Browne rest in peace.
Warm regards,
Gareth
